Thesis Project, topic: „Architectural envelope solutions, Designing in the context of urban Calcutta”
The architectural envelope today is progressively replacing the classical concepts of wall and roof. Mediating between the exterior and the interior space is a challenging yet delicate task entrusted to the architectural envelope. Designing sophisticated yet customized architectural envelopes are seldom the case, and often a similar solution is implemented in a starkly contrasting context and environment. The research aims to understand the hard facts and often delicate cultural nuances which shape building envelopes. As a part of the project, contemporary and relevant facade systems and building envelopes will be analysed with parametric tools, in search for a contextual solution, drawing from lessons in vernacular architecture.
