Using real models, computer simulations, and devices objectifying the evaluation of results, what is being built is an environment for conducting a structural efficiency study.
Course participants are assigned simple tasks requiring the creation of a concept for an element with defined structural requirements (roofs, spans, suspension, bearing, etc.).
During the first part of the semester, participants shape materials and structural concepts making up solutions for the stated problem individually. An aspect of the task is the presentation of the idea in the form of a model illustrating the operation of the element such that it is possible to conduct utilitarian tests (physical or simulated).
In the second phase of the course, participants get together into three–member teams whose composition matches the specifics of the task being undertaken. Each team strives to create laboratory test methods, conduct tests, and formulate conclusions relating to solution effectiveness to the best of their ability.
