Building and Modeling Materials

Building and Modeling Materials

Course type: Lectures and Seminars

ASK course

Course Code: M1 ETCS: 2
Proj/lab/semin hours: 15 Lecture hours: 15

General description of the course

The subject is conducted on two parallel planes:

1.  Lecture on the propedeutics of material engineering. Presentation of the typology of solutions applied in building construction from the point of view of material technology and the theoretical basics of evaluating qualities and shaping new materials.

Chemical and physical basics of the structure of materials illustrated using practical effects in industrial applications. Understanding internal qualities as a basis for developing awareness of the processes of the creating of building elements and the creation of effective joints and structures, as well as optimization.

2.  Laboratory classes, where participants working in teams develop illustrations covering selected material problems in building (e.g. the modeling of partition qualities in terms of thermal insulation and infiltration, joining elements in timber, polymer, and steel structures, etc.). In addition to examples in literature, students may use simulations as derived from CAD environments.
